Langley Park School for Boys

Client Name: LJJ Contractors
Location: Bromley
Budget: £28 million
Project Details:

Avoca provided the detailed MEP services design  to this project which consisted of the existing school being demolished to allow a new state-of-the-art boys school and sports college to be built, including teaching facilities as well as indoor and outdoor sports faciliites.

This 1,620 pupil replacement school is a BSF One School Pathfinder scheme and targeted to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating
As with a number of projects undertaken in 2010 and 2011 the construction method utilised an in-situ concrete frame which provided challenges in terms of riser sizes and services supports which is always an issue when the detailed MEP designers are brought in after the Architect and Structural Engineer have completed their design work. However, without too many issues Avoca worked with the design team to minimise the impact on the completed layout and frame design to allow the successful installation of the building services systems.
The majority of the building utilised natural ventilation via low level louvres and atrium ventilation in each of the hubs which take the form of fingers from the curved spine of the building.
The project also included a performance standard theatre which required a great deal of design input from ourselves due to the tight spaces and increased acoustic requirements.
