Claremont PlaceMulti-disciplined building services engineers Avoca Consulting Engineers, have commenced work on the £7.5m Student Accommodation in the City Centre close to Newcastle University.

Working with Opus Building Services, construction work is well underway on the  development, which involves the conversion of eight 19th Century townhouses on Claremont Place for student property company Ziggurat.

After extensive design work the buildings will be revived into 92 self contained residential studios for students with an on-site management office and 24-hour response team, communal laundry and refuse facilities and a secure cycle storage area.

The studios will boast generous room sizes and many of the original features will be retained in the properties to create inspirational living spaces with individual character. Each apartment will boast modern kitchens, bathrooms and lighting to ensure a contemporary feel is kept throughout.

Mark Hooper managing director of Avoca said; ”We are delighted to be working alongside Opus Building Services to provide the detailed design of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services on the project".

Work began on site last November and completion is expected in Summer 2015, for the start of the academic year.
