Newcastle University are leading a national centre for subsea and offshore engineering, as part of a major drive to develop new materials and technologies to

explore the worlds oceans. The Neptune National Centre is due to commence on site in April 2014 and will be the first of its kind in the UK, bringing together industry and academia to create a world-class engineering research facility.

Building on the region's maritime heritage and Newcastle University's world-leading expertise in marine engineering, the Neptune Centre will be developed on the north bank of the River Tyne on the Neptune Energy Park, part of Shepherd Offshore.  Accommodating test units designed to replication the conditions experienced under the sea will provide a high class facility for both local industries and research purposes.

Avoca Consulting Engineers have recently been appointed to provide both Mechanical & Electrical design service, as well as BREEAM assessor services with the building designed to achieve A BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating on the 30 week programme.
